Temple Israel offers a wide variety of educational opportunities for adults. There are year-long programs, short courses, hands-on cooking classes, book reviews, and more. Come broaden your understanding of Judaism. Most programs are offered at no charge. Please note that some programs require pre-registration, but most do not.
This year Temple Israel (Reform) and Congregation Or Shalom (Conservative) are offering a joint adult education program: J.E.M. - Jewish Educational Manna -- Intellectual Food for the Wondering Jew at the JCC. All J.E.M. programs are free of charge and open to the public. There's lots to learn. Come join us!
If you can’t drive in the dark, or you’re without a car (or license) and you want to come to Temple for any reason (a program, a service) please call the Temple Office with as much notice as you can, but even if it’s for the same day, please call.
All JEM programs meet Monday 7:30pm at the JCC. This series of presentations by outstanding speakers is presented jointly by Or Shalom and Temple Israel. More info will be posted on the Adult Education page when it becomes available.

Shabbat Torah Study
Shabbat Torah Study
There will usually be two Saturday morning Torah study sessions each month.
When there is no Shabbat service scheduled on Saturday (because there was one on Friday evening), the study session will begin at 10:30am, and it will run until noon. When there is a service scheduled that Saturday, Torah study will begin a 9:00am (with a light breakfast including bagels) and it will end at 10:25am, after which services will begin.
September Torah Study Sessions:
Due to the timing of the High Holy Days, there will be no regular Shabbat study sessions in September.

Jewish Information Class ( J.I.C.)
JEWISH INFORMATION CLASS

The Jewish Information Class will hold an information meeting on Sunday evening, October 3, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. At that time, we will discuss the goals and structure of the class, and textbooks will be available.
There is no charge for the class except for the text. The sessions will run October to December, breaking (with readings and activities) until February. The sessions will conclude in May.
The class is intended for ANYONE who wishes to increase his/her Jewish knowledge and is a prerequisite for any person anticipating conversion.

Learn to Read Hebrew
LEARN TO READ HEBREW
(Fall 2010 dates have not yet been announced.)
A 15-hour course teaching the AlefBet and Hebrew reading in ten weekly sessions of 1 ½ hours will be jointly offered by Temple Israel and Congregation Or Shalom and taught by Rose Klein, an experienced and certified Hebrew teacher.

The London FMAMS is on hiatus
After three outstanding years, the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School (FMAMS) in London, Ontario is taking a break. London is a small community, and it looks like we need time to grow a new crop of students.
Check in with the London Jewish Community Centre (519-673-3310) from time to time, to see when Melton will return.
