Temple Israel offers a wide variety of educational opportunities for adults. There are year-long programs, short courses, hands-on cooking classes, book reviews, and more. Come broaden your understanding of Judaism. Most programs are offered at no charge. Please note that some programs require pre-registration, but most do not.

This year Temple Israel (Reform) and Congregation Or Shalom (Conservative) are offering a joint adult education program: J.E.M. - Jewish Educational Manna -- Intellectual Food for the Wondering Jew at the JCC.   All J.E.M. programs are free of charge and open to the public. There's lots to learn. Come join us!

If you can’t drive in the dark, or you’re without a car (or license) and you want to come to Temple for any reason (a program, a service) please call the Temple Office with as much notice as you can, but even if it’s for the same day, please call.
Lunch & Learn has moved to WEDNESDAYS at noon. All are welcome.
EVERY TEMPLE ISRAEL HOUSEHOLD SHOULD BE RECEIVING – AND READING – REFORM JUDAISM MAGAZINE! It is an excellent resource which links us to the broader Reform Jewish world…and it is part of your membership package! If you do not receive REFORM JUDAISM MAGAZINE, call the Temple Office, please. Shabbat Torah Study  


Shabbat Torah Study

When there is no Shabbat service scheduled on Saturday (because there was one on Friday evening), the study session will begin at 10:30am, and it will run until noon.
When there is a service scheduled that Saturday, Torah study will begin at 9:00am and it will end at 10:25am, after which services will begin. (As of January 2012 the Shabbat Torah Study will occur after the Shabbat Kiddush. Shabbat Services will be earlier, at 10:00am. Your input is welcome. Please contact Tom Casler.)

The Jewish Publication Society (JPS) provides the current weekly Torah portion in audio format. Listen online here. Just click the "play" arrow to begin.

Jewish Braille Institute

The Jewish Braille Institute provides Torah, Haftarah, liturgical and life cycle materials (as well as other materials of general interest) in large-print, audio, or Braille formats at no charge to visually challenged members worldwide.

Jewish Information Class ( J.I.C.)  



JEWISH INFORMATION CLASS

There is no charge for the class except for the text. 
The sessions will meet Sunday afternoons, starting late October.

The class is intended for ANYONE who wishes to increase his/her Jewish knowledge and is a prerequisite for any person anticipating conversion.

Rabbi Dressler: "Not sure if this is the class, or the year, for you? Come to the meeting to see what you think. 
After that, I am available for individual meetings if you want to discuss things further.

Rose Klein will be teaching two Hebrew language courses:

Intermediate - Understanding the Prayer Book
Tuesdays, October 25 - December 27, 1:00 - 2:30 pm
Prerequisite: Basic Hebrew Reading course, or equivalent Hebrew
reading skills.

Advanced - Conversational Modern Hebrew
Thursdays, October 27 - January 5, 2012, 1:00 - 2:30 pm
Prerequisite: Intermediate Hebrew course or the ability to read
Hebrew fluently.

Cost for each course: $150/student; text included.

    The London FMAMS is on hiatus

    After three outstanding years, the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School (FMAMS) in London, Ontario is taking a break. London is a small community, and it looks like we need time to grow a new crop of students.

    Check in with the London Jewish Community Centre (519-673-3310) from time to time, to see when Melton will return.
