Temple Israel Library

Books

The Temple Israel Library offers a broad range of materials for children, youth, and adults. It is located on the second floor of our building, in the Board/Library Room. Drop by and browse our collection. You are guaranteed to find something of interest!

Did you know that ...

The Temple Israel Library has been upgraded with additional shelving?

  • we have recently received more than 200 donated books?
  • you can borrow audio/visual material (movies, CDs, cassettes, etc.)?
  • the library is open any time during Temple Office hours or before or after services?
  • books are borrowed on an honour system?
  • You may keep books for 4 weeks and audio/visual items for 2 weeks?
  • The sign-out system is simple and straightforward?

We have a new sign-out system -- no more cards. There is a sign-out sheet upstairs on the library table; to sign a book out, write the title, your name, and phone number on the sheet. When you return book(s), simply drop them into the box labelled "Returns." The same system works for the books displayed outside the Sanctuary.

We have available some recent books that have been or will soon be reviewed in our adult learning programs, and handouts form all of last year's and this year's adult courses.

There are more than 250 Jewish novels: historical, Israeli, modern, mystery, humourous and biographical.

We have books to help prepare Jewish meals, holiday celebratons, life cycle events, arts and crafts projects and celebration parties.

View the Library Report (below) for news about new acquisitions and featured items. Visit the Library whenever you're at the Temple. It's all there for our members to use and enjoy.

Click here for the Temple Israel Library Catalogue

You can search the catalogue by title, author, or tag (=subject)
or browse through the catalogue in any order you wish.

About 80% of our books have been catalogued thus far. More books are being added all the time.

You can't check out books online, but the online catalogue is a very useful resource for discovering books in our collection.

Plan to visit the Temple Israel Library (2nd floor) any time our building is open.

  • Labels on the shelves make it easy to find books by subject.
  • To borrow a book, use the slgn-out sheet
(book title, your name, your phone number).
  • To return a book, place it in the "Returns" box.
