REMINDERS FOR HIGH HOLY DAY SERVICES
Reserve for Baby Sitting
Temple families and their guests attending evening and morning services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are invited to bring their young children (ages 2-6) and leave them in the care of a trained child care worker in the new "Playzone" room at the JCC during those times. There will be no charge for this, but PLEASE, call the Temple office to register so that we know how many care givers will be needed.
The doors of the baby sitting room will open one-half hour before the start of services; children should be picked up immediately after the close of services. Snacks will be provided, but please send your own with your child if he/she has any allergies or other concerns.
If you require more information, please contact Dinah Frank.
Bring Your Machzor (Gates of Repentance)
If you have your own to use, it would stretch our limited supply of these prayerbooks.
Please Try To Arrive On Time
The start-time for each service is posted below. If you are a little late, please be patient if the ushers ask you to remain in the foyer for a very short while until an appropriate time to admit you and help you find seats.
If you can’t drive in the dark, or you’re without a car (or license) and you want to come to Temple for any reason (a program, a service) please call the Temple Office with as much notice as you can, but even if it’s for the same day, please call.
Please join us for any Shabbat or Holiday service, for High Holy Days, and for any program that interests you. Contact office@templeisraellondon.ca or 519-858-4400.
High Holy Days 5771 / 2010
S'lichot Saturday, September 4, 9:00 pm at Temple Israel
"Eat! Pray! Live!": A S'lichot Eve Experience Since the sixteenth century, Jews around the world have met on the Saturday night before Rosh Hashanah to do all three. The occasion is S' lichot ("prayers for forgiveness"). This year we will meet to follow that tradition with dessert ("Eat! "), a short service ("Pray! "), and a fascinating conversation on life ("Live! ").
Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman will lead the "Live! " part of the evening. He has just published a book entitledWho By Fire, Who By Water? - a discussion of the idea that life is determined every year when God decides who gets written in the book of life and who not. Many of us were raised on this idea of a judging God, but does anyone believe it any more? Don't let childhood ideas of "God, the universe and all that" interfere with your High Holiday experience. This S' lichot eve, make a fresh start on your personal spiritual future. Come join your Temple Israel community for a fun and stimulating night to eat, pray, and live.
